EMILADE (EMMY)
Emmy is a presumed female 29 Year old Mitred hybrid (mitred x white eye?). She’s lived in her last home for 18 years, so initially had a harder time adjusting. She is choosy about her people, doesn’t like sun conures or similar (or Pionus, we found. She will chase them out of her space) but has gotten along fine with the cherryheads, green cheeks, and a cockatiel. Emmy really wants to find her person to snuggle with! She seems choosy of her people in general but we think she could go to anyone with the knowledge and skills to work with her. She's skittish on the hand and doesn't want to stay in one place, usually hanging out on top of her cage and running away from us when we try to handle her. She will land on a shoulder when she feels like it. She loves horror films (especially the gory ones), TV show music, and wags her tail when she’s happy. She’s been plucked on her bottom half for a long time and will likely never regrow those feathers. We don’t care that she prefers not to wear pants. She’ll have to meet potential adopters a few times to build a bond.
Emmy will have to remain on a small dose of pain medication for the remainder of her life. She takes her meds exceptionally well and looks forward to her pieces of bread. She’s recently begun a new medication as she ages and is on two meds.

KALA & HURLEY
Kala and Hurley are a fun pair of 4 year old green-cheek conures. These birds are closely bonded and can be quite protective of one another. Hurley is a bit more reserved, whereas Kala enjoys a scratch on her own terms. They are caged separately since together, Kala will begin laying eggs almost immediately and they become quite defensive of their cage. These two enjoy flying around the room as they are VERY agile fliers, watching movies (without birds!), and they like to see you do chores. They’re great to watch on their own but they’d really love to be a part of a family WITHOUT other birds to interact with. It’s not a requirement, but we do feel they may be happier without having to share affections. They can be rather mean to others out of defensiveness so care will have to be taken if they DO go to a home with birds.

SISKO & SAMMY SUNSHINE
Sisko and Sammy (pictured right) are a bonded pair of 21 year old Sun Conures, unknown sex so far. These two are a bit feisty! They are DEEPLY bonded to each other and cannot be handled together- though both can be handled if moved to a separate room from their partner. They were originally here in 2010 and were surrendered due to their noisiness, not uncommon with this species. They’re definitely noisy and will sound off whether people are around or not. According to their ORIGINAL owner, they aren’t always tame and have flown at people before when they’re allowed out together. Basically, dragons.

JOJO
Jojo is a 21 year old Green Cheek Conure (wild type), unknown sex. She was adopted many years ago from Earl May Garden Center in Cedar Rapids. She was pretty aggressive back then but she wasn’t well cared for. Luckily she found her owner and he showed her that life could be much better. She’s missing some toenails and has pretty weak feet, as well as skinny. She’s obviously plucked on her belly but is a super sweetheart and will step up. Jojo loves “hand bed” and snuggling into a curled palm- she feels safe and likes head pets then. She also LOVES long hair and will happily dive her way in until she’s sufficiently buried.
MEDICAL HOLD
unfortunately Jo’s medical workup showed some very concerning things. She’s being treated for liver disease and pneumonia, but there’s a possibility she may have cancer. She will need more workups to determine what our next step is.

HENRY
Henry is a male Sun Conure, 18 years old. We think he could have a pied gene and it’s why his green is so reduced! He seems kinda wary of the other free flight conures at this point, but gets along with Sisko and Sammy! They flock together and are friends, but not bonded together. They DO often hang out in a trio and sometimes he and one of the other Suns separate off and cuddle, but I still think they could be apart. His original owner said he likes all people, and it seems that’s probably true! He will step up and sit on a shoulder or be carried around. His step ups cost one bite every time, but sometimes he’s a bit more stubborn. A small cost for a lifetime of love!

BABY
Baby is a 28+ year old Nanday Conure. Our third Baby in the building, if you don’t count Biko (fka Baby). THIS Baby is a real sweetheart when he trusts you! He’s got a history of biting every woman he meets, but I think it’s more like… he chooses his person and everybody else gets bitten. It’s probable he has a slight preference for men though, just based on the history. He’s thin and a bit wobbly in the feet- typical of a geriatric bird. Given we don’t know a ton of history or his age, he could be nearing the end of his life. He’s really just looking for a safe landing pad where he can live his time out doing whatever he wants. He can’t be left unsupervised outside the cage and he does fall when he’s outside. We haven’t witnessed him fall INSIDE the cage, thankfully- we think he tries to fly outside the cage and he… well, he really just can’t. :-)

GONZO
Gonzo is a 6 year old Green Cheek Conure, unknown sex. We think he is a pineapple mutation (YS/Cinn). He’s under cuddlebugs for now as he steps up and is reported to enjoy snuggling, but he’s been a little dragon here. I think he doesn’t enjoy being around so many birds and fighting for attention. His nipping doesn’t hurt THAT bad and can definitely be worked with, but Gonzo absolutely needs a calmer home to be in. He fights with one of the Sun Conures so can only be out when directly supervised, though he doesn’t often leave the cage unless asked to step up. He and the Sun are both instigators, so it’s expected that Gonzo will probably instigate squabbles with others, too- he isn’t vicious about it though… just protective of his space I think. Green cheeks seem to believe everything around them is theirs, including you AND your home. Regardless of all this, he knows how to step up, sometimes does so politely, and has been around kids before so might be fine in a home with older kids.

HOLLY & TRUDEE
Holly and Trudee are a 28 and 14 year old mother and daughter Cherryhead pair, respectively. They have lived wild in the small-bird aviary, and don’t want to be handled. They are devoted to each other and seeing them snuggled up together is heartwarming. This pair is a super thing to watch just acting like parrots, and that's the life I want for them. You must have a large free-flight aviary.
