The Adoption Process

Before applying to adopt… A few ground rules to note.

1. We NEVER place birds with smokers. That includes “only outside”, in the car, at work, or anywhere else.

2. Birds are never shipped.

3. We do not place birds with minors, and parents cannot sign on their behalf.

4. We do not SELL birds, we are not a pet store. ***Information on adoption fees is found on this page below.***

5. We NEVER place birds with breeders of any kind.

6. We do not place macaws or cockatoos in apartments or mobile home communities.

What to Expect During your Trip

Not sure what kind of bird you’re looking for, who is right for you, or just want to learn more? Read all about the different parrots here before applying. The information in this section is important to the application’s questions.

Parrot Care Resources

Here you can see what type of caging is recommended, species appropriate diets, medical care info, common disease facts and a list of avian vets, safe perches/toys, how to build your own aviary, and more! Please read before applying.

Meet the Birds and Apply to Adopt

Here you can see each bird that is available for adoption, their bios, and a photo. We work hard to evaluate each bird and write a biography that is honest and fair. We also list any special needs and adoption/medical hold status if a bird is awaiting medical clearance (whether they are just new to us or under treatment for something)When applying, you do not need to have a specific bird in mind but it would be great to know what kind of personality/interaction you are looking for. (sorry, we don’t have Hyacinths for adoption.)

Utilize this safe home checklist before your home visit so you are well prepared for the questions that will be asked. It’s recommended to be prepared with specific questions for your home visitor, if you have any.
